I can still remember my total fascination with K.I.T.T. , the talking car when it hit the TV scene in 1982 . The owner of this magical car was of course, David Hasselhoff : as The Knight Rider. The discussions they had with one another , that is the driver and the car, were mindblowing; not to mention the hairraising chase scenes and adventures these two shared during a period of 4 years.
Little did I know then, that one day I will also own a car that tells me, it is time for a service. And what is even more amazing, that once I am at the garage ( at the crack of dawn ) they take the key, to go and read it ??????? Needless to say : I was impressed. My own talking car with a very intelligent key that stores goodness knows what kind of information ?
This reminded me of a delightful woman from Namibia, who once phoned me to enquire about a couples weekend workshop. She told me that her husband was not keen on attending the Getting The Love You Want workshop. To give up a whole weekend, not to mention his Saturday golf, was beyond comprehension. But she was ready for him – he was not going to get away……
She put it to him like this :” My darling husband, do you agree with me, that this very expensive car that you drive, deserves just the best treatment ? And after 1000 kms, you take her in for an oil change, and after 3000 kms she goes in for another checkup ? And so it continues: after a certain amount of kilometers driven, the engine gets checked serviced ? ”
She said to me, with a laugh in her voice: ” and when he agreed with me and even added : of course, one must look after such an expensive piece of machinery, I knew I had him just where I wanted him : in a corner.”
So I asked him : ” And what price do you put THIS piece of machinery ?” waving my finger between the two of us. ” Don’t you think, after 15 years of marriage, it is time to this relationship in for a tune-up ?”
Needless to say, they attended a workshop. And loved it.
In every workshop, there is a Schlepper and a Schleppee……..and invariably, it is the one that has been dragged to the workshop, that enjoys it the most.
